With leg two of Phish’s summer tour beginning this week, front-man Trey Anastasio announced the October 16th release of his new album, Traveler, and an upcoming fall tour. Co-produced with Peter Katis, known for his work with The National and Interpol, the album will be released on Rubber Jungle Records/ATO Records. In addition to the standard Trey Anastasio Band (TAB), Anastasio and Katis worked with several other musicians on the album, including Mates of State’s Kori Gardner, Bryan Devendorf and Matt Berninger of The National, and Icelandic percussionist Samuli Kosminen.
“My goal was to create an album that used the studio as an instrument,” says Anastasio, who began recording Traveler after Phish wrapped up its 2011 summer tour. “I wanted to work with Peter because he is a master at creating a sonic landscape,” notes Trey. “We were hoping for a cinematic end result.”
Anastasio will hit the road this October to coincide with the release of Traveler (full tour dates listed below). With a 9-show tour scheduled solely in the mid-west and northeast, west coast and southeast fans will have to wait until the next go-around for a live taste of TAB and Anastasio’s new album. This tour will mark Anastasio’s first solo show at the famous New York Beacon Theater (Phish last played the Beacon in 1994) as well as inaugural shows at the Chicago Theatre and the Sherman Theatre in Stroudsburg, PA.
“Scabbard”, the first single to be released from Traveler will be available for purchase on August 21. Check out a preview of the sinlge on Amazon.com.
A pre-sale for all shows will start this Thursday, August 16th at 10:00am EST and end Wednesday, August 22nd at 5:00pm EST. For more details about ticketing and public sale dates please visit the TAB 2012 tour page.
