Early Saturday evening, despite impending thunderstorms, headliners My Morning Jacket took the stage at the 2012 Newport Folk Festival. Much like their performance at Forecastle, there was no shortage of special guests.

Today would have marked the 70th birthday of Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia. To celebrate, NCM Fathom Events will be showing “The Grateful Dead Movie” at select theaters across the U.S for just one night only.
First Round of Artists Confirmed for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2012
This week the first ten artists were announced for the 12th edition of Warren Hellman’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival. The event will take place October 5th through 7th in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Released artists include Jerry Douglas, Rubblebucket, The Del McCoury Band and The Head and The Heart. Despite being a free event, HSB will offer bike valet service. Free water, composting and recycling will all be available on site and HSB encourages festival goers to take out what they bring in to minimize waste and impact on the park.
Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is a free, 3-day event and no tickets are required.
