Good Tunes and Green Vibes at Chicago’s Green Music Fest

Looking for an affordable and eco-conscious way to spend the weekend? Check out the Green Music Fest (June 23 and 24)!

This weekend, Chicago’s Wicker Park will host a collection of stellar music acts and feature environmentally-friendly vendors as part of the 2012 Green Music Fest. With musical guests curated by local music venue Subterranean, this eco-friendly festival is sure to provide good times for fans of all ages.

The festival’s central mission is to connect the Chicago community with environmentally sustainable organizations, products and services. Amongst the many green initiatives present at the festival, a thorough waste diversion program was created with the help of the Chicago Center for Green Technology and the WPB SSA (Special Service Area for the Wicker Park and Buctkown neighborhoods). Staff will be on-hand to help fans properly dispose of waste, compostables and recyclables.

From solar-powered gadgets to organic goods, green vendors will be demonstrating and selling a wide variety of products and sustainable technologies in the Green Village. To minimize the impact of the festival, all food vendors are required to use compostable disposables. Plastic bottles, styrofoam containers and virgin paper items are prohibited.
