Greening the Bay: Treasure Island Music Festival

Although there are many summer festivals still to go, I’m looking forward to the upcoming Treasure Island Music Festival (TIMF) in San Francisco, CA. An eclectic group of musicians, including Grimes, Toro Y Moi, M83 and Youth Lagoon will gather this October for a two-day music festival on the man-made Treasure Island. Working in collaboration with Clean Vibes, the same on-site waste management company that works with Phish and Bonnaroo, TIMF is committed to limiting their environmental impact through emission and waste reductions. Over the past five years, up to seventy-five percent of festival waste has been diverted to recycling or composting.

TIMF will be using biodiesel generators fueled with a B20 biodiesel/diesel mix, which will reduce hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions. Attendees are encouraged to reduce their carbon footprint by using public transit or biking to the festivities. On-site bike valet services will also be available.

Stay tuned to Green Up Music for more Treasure Island Music Festival green updates. And if you’re ready to see some great music in the bay, TIMF tickets just went up for sale this week! To purchase tickets, please visit Treasure Island Music Festival here.
